In this study we tested the influence of Satureja montana L. essential oil (EO) on Candida albicans ATCC10231 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae D7 growth by Macrodilution assay using Trypan blue. The effect of EO on growth inhibition was calculated by comparing CFU/ml of treated and CFU/ml of non-treated cultures. The toxic effect of 100% was considered as Minimal fungicidal concentration (MFC) of EO. In S. cerevisae the first concentration that had effect on growth rate was 0.0097µl/ml (21% of growth inhibition) while in the case of C. albicans the first effect on growth was detected at 0.039µl/ml (43% of growth inhibition). For both fungi species the toxic effect of 100% (MFC) was reached at 0.312µl/ml of EO. MFC: MIC ratio was 4, which according to literature indicates that EO of S. montana is considered to be fungistatic against S. cerevisiae and C. albicans.en_US
