Title: | First record of Branchipus intermedius Orghidan, 1947 (Branchiopoda) in the Eastern Balkans | Authors: | Miličić, Dragana Petrov, Brigita |
Issue Date: | 1-Nov-2007 | Journal: | Crustaceana | Abstract: | Until now, the known range of Branchipus intermedius Orghidan, 1947 was restricted to eastern Romania and the Bistra Mountain in western Macedonia. This paper reports the first record of this species from Serbia, i.e., in the area of the Stara Planina Mountains, which represents a new, southeasternmost distribution limit of B. intermedius in the Balkans. The morphology of B. intermedius is briefly discussed, and it is here described for the first time on the basis of SEM observations. The present distribution, the presumed origin, and dispersal patterns of the species are discussed as well. © 2007 Brill Academic Publishers. |
