Abstract:
The antifungal activity of Salvia desoleana Atzei & Picci (Labiatae) essential oil and its three components was investigated against 17 micromycetes. Among the species tested were food-poisoning fungi and plant, animal and human pathogens. In order to determine minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the total essential oils and their components, mycelial growth and microdilution tests were used. The essential oil of S. desoleana and linalool possessed strong antifungal activity, 1,8-cineole showed only moderate antifungal potential, while linalyl acetate possessed a lower antifungal potential.
