Title: | Female recombination rates and fitness in Drosophila melanogaster | Authors: | Cvetković, Dragana Tucić, Nikola |
Issue Date: | 1-Jan-1986 | Journal: | Journal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research | Abstract: | Experiments were performed to study the relationship between recombination rates and three components of fitness (egg‐to‐adult viability, female fecundity and longevity) of Drosophila melanogaster. It was found that fitness components were inversely associated with recombination rates. Statistically significant negative correlation was detected only between female fecunditiy and recombination rates. Since this suggests that there is selection for reduced recombination rates, evolutionary implications of these findings are discussed.
