Issue Date: | Dec-2003 | Rank: | M23 | Publisher: | Croatian Society of Natural Sciences | Journal: | Periodicum Biologorum | Volume: | 105 | Issue: | 4 | Start page: | 461 | End page: | 464 | Abstract: | Background and Purpose: This paper represents a study of the biodiversity of some relict and endemic diplopods in Croatia. Material and Methods: The material studied (= type material) was collected by one of the junior authors (TR). Results: In this study, two rare endemic forms of millipedes, Brachydesmus (Kerkosoma) granulosus n. sp. and Dyocerasoma (Dyocerasoma) intermedia n. sp. have been described, thoroughly illustrated and diagnostified. Conclusions: Altogether 179 diplopod taxa are presently known from Croatia; of these 79 (or 44.13%) are endemic to the area. These forms belong to the northern-Mediterranean fauna and are of different age and origin. |
